Standing Seam Roof Deicing

Invizimelt installed beneath standing seam roofing

When hardware store heat trace cables failed to prevent ice and snow buildup and damage on the roof of this mountain home, the owner reached out to Warmquest to provide an under roof deicing solution.

To heat under the standing seam roof, Heatizon Tuff Cable was installed in their aluminum Invizimelt Panel system. Invizimelt acts as a heatsink, dispersing the heat from our low voltage Tuff Cable across the panel and melting snow from underneath metal roofing materials.

The section of damaged roofing was removed along with the valley metal and the Invizimelt panels were installed over the sub-roof. The low voltage Tuff Cable was then placed into the grooves in the panels and the system was covered with high temp ice and water shield.

To protect the system during the standing seam installation, the cable locations were all marked over the waterproofing and a roof alarm was connected to the system to monitor for shorts. The panels are designed to be fastened through as long as the cables remain undisturbed.

Controlling this system is a state of the art Radiant 8 control unit which contains a transformer that converts the 240 volt input power into a low voltage supply for the Tuff Cable. The system is activated by a temperature sensor that runs the system when ambient temperatures fall within a customizable operating window. This allows for snow to melt throughout the winter as it moves from higher up the roof down onto the heated area, but prevents the system from running when temperatures fall below a set point.
