Snow Melting - Retrofit

Salt Lake City , Utah

The snow melting system originally installed into the driveway of the McCullough Residence had failed because the concrete had moved so dramatically that the heating element eventually broke in many places. Rather than tearing out the concrete and replacing it along with the heating element, Warmquest suggested that the McCullough’s consider retro-fitting Heatizon Systems Tuff Cable snow melting products into their existing driveway.

In order to install the Tuff Cable, saw cuts 1 inch deep and ¼ inch wide were cut on 6 inch centers. Once the cuts had been made, power washed and allowed to dry; the Tuff Cable was installed into the cuts. The Tuff Cable was then covered with a backer rod and the backer rod was covered with a concrete sealant.

Retrofitting Tuff Cable into existing concrete or asphalt is ideal in mountainous and other locations where the substrate is volatile or where landscape retainage is on one side or the other of the surface being snow melted.
